Pet-associates pneumonia in an immunodeficient patient

Abstract

Although the risk of transmission of infections from contact with pets is low, a number of serious animal-associated infections have been reported in patients who are immunocompromised. We present the first case of pneumonia caused by both Bordetella bronchiseptica and Pasteurella multocida in a patient with common variable immunodeficiency This case highlights the importance of limiting contact with animals in patients who have profound hypogammaglobulinemia.
