Silicone stabilized poly(methyl methacrylate) nonaqueous latexes I. Preparation and characterization

Abstract

Nonaqueous poly(methyl methacrylate) latexes were prepared by the nonaqueous dispersion polymerization of methyl methacrylate in heptane with trimethylsilyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane or vinyldimethylsilyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane stabilizer precursors. The influence of initiator concentration, silicone concentration, and silicone molecular weight on particle size was investigated and explained in terms of nucleation mechanisms.
