Overview

Ilvy Goossens is a clinician, scientist, and assistant professor (PT) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and McMaster University. She is also a research partner at the FREDA Centre BC, a knowledge hub for domestic and dating violence.

The main objective in her career is to generate and synthesize knowledge about mental health, risk, and recovery. The ultimate purpose is to enhance clinical services and direct evidence-based policies that support marginalized groups in the criminal justice system.

She has obtained a PhD from Simon Fraser University in Clinical Forensic Psychology, and has worked as a clinician in inpatient, outpatient, civil, forensic, and private settings in Europe and across Canada. She often publishes her work in peer-reviewed journals, and is a frequent presenter at (inter)national conferences. Aside from victim safety planning, her areas of interest include violence risk, mental health, trauma, decision-making, and legal psychology.
