My current research interests are primarily in the area of the Finite Element Method, both in development and application. The research deals with practical problems that are nonlinear in nature. Both geometric and material nonlinearities are being considered. Current problems being investigated include: pipe whip accident in a nuclear plant, crack propagation, contact between moving surfaces and impact of projectiles on fiber composite plates. The work on fibre composite plates includes the development and testing of new elements to allow the modelling of energy absorption and deflection characteristics.

Research activities over the past few years resulted in the development of a general purpose nonlinear finite element program: Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis Program, INDAP. INDAP is structured in a modular form for flexible, accurate and economical solutions of nonlinear problems. Its capabilities include: material non linearities, such as elastic plastic and creep characteristics; geometric non linearities due to large strains and displacements; 3 D contact algorithm for colliding bodies; dynamic response due to impact with consideration of structural discontinuities.

Using Finite Element Modelling, road vehicle dynamics are studied. The objective of this aspect of my research is to provide a better understanding of the basic physical mechanics underlying the ride quality of articulated vehicles and the human body including their parameters with realistic input representing road undulations.
