  • Human amniotic fluid obtained near term was examined for total progesterone, progesterone binding and total protein. Samples from patients bearing male (M) fetuses had 25.5 &#177; 2.0 ng/ml (n = 45) and female (F) fetuses 23.8 &#177; 2.7 ng/ml (n = 32). Bound progesterone in undiluted fluid was 47.1 &#177; 2.2<i>%</i> (M) and 48.5 &#177; 2.1<i>%</i> (F) while total protein was 2.1 &#177; 0.2 mg/ml (M) and 2.3 &#177; 0.3 mg/ml (F). No sex differences could be found.
